-Building the complete QB – all about desire, want to learn, passion and coach ability – the goals are to help quarterbacks find consistency in their game – I believe that it starts at the bottom with your feet, just like how a ball is released from the push into the ground through the ball releasing off the fingertips –Understanding why body control and balance are key in being a complete quarterback - Creating a winning attitude is key because the best way to judge a quarterback is on how well he wins. –to be great you must treat your body right so you can grow and achieve everything you want, that includes physical training, mental training and nutritional awareness. Three P’s: Positivity, Passion and Persistence.
Warm-up: Every day the quarterbacks will do the warm-up to ensure that by the time any ball has been thrown there bodies are awake, warm and firing on all cylinders
One lap around the field to wake up our mind and body before we go into our stretch.
Hip mobility stretch: 1. Knee’s wide hips rolled straight through 10X 2. Knee’s wide hands walked side to side single hip rolled over 10X. 3. On one knee, hands on hips. Hands will help push to lunge forward when a stretch is felt the leg on the ground you flex your glute and hold it as you push back to starting position 10X.
Shoulder Warm-up: Little circles 10X. Big circles 10X. Elbows in Interior/external rotation 10X. Elbows high rotations 10X.
Over the line: 1-3 sets of :15-:30 sec. The first movement is rythme based over and back on a line, taking three steps on each side of the line except behind the line the 2nd step will be a crossover with 3rd step being a plant step. This is intended to get there mind to correlate with their feet so when they start throwing muscle memory with kick in to help with timing. The second movement is all about the reach or stretch, taking the same steps from first movement now with the 1st step behind the line you will reach back. This motion is intended to simulate the reach step in your drop back. The third movement is all about speed. There is no crossover steps, just three quick feet in the ground steps to make sure all your nerve endings are awake and reacting how they are suppose to.
Drills:
Peyton Manning- (10yds) Feet parallel/ stagger right leg forward & left/ squared up 6 inch step with consistent follow through/ backed up 15 yard repeat 6 inch step throw/ on the move straight back and through the line consistent pace. This drill can also be done near the goal post for all QB’s that issues with elbow levels and consistency.
Flip the hips- Straddle the line at 15 yards away pulling the back leg around quickly with front leg staying open just enough to have a straight path to push at target. To simulate the action of a quick flip on bootlegs going to off-hand you will if right hand turn your body so your facing away with legs straddling the line inside leg is back and before throwing you have to repeat the same motion as before except now you have to get around further.
Hips open walking down the line- From sideline to hash mark
Five step progression drill- read left to right, right to left, repeat with movement
Drew brees drill- two movements with someone chasing. Goal is keeping a wide base with ability to deliver the ball at any time.
Squat walks down the line.
